Exceptional Customer Service: e4 Strategies

A few weeks ago I bought a couple of Polycom IP650 SIP phones from Michael White at E4 Strategies. This company was recommended by Karl Fife, a regular on the weekly Voip User Conference.

e4 had some IP650s listed as “open box” and offered at a discount so I ordered a pair. A day later Michael responded that in fact the open box units were sold out, but he’d honor the price for my small order. That’s great, I thought. And they were delivered quickly, too. All in all an excellent purchase experience.

Siemens S685IP: Beyond Cool

This afternoon I took a few minutes to get the S685IP setup and working. I thought I’d use it in the office today as I was going about my daily toil.

A few snips, a little solder & some electrical tape is all it took to provide power. I had to splice the universal power supplies that I bought last night into the lines from the manufacturers supplies power supplies. The voltages and current ratings matched, but the connectors didn’t. Is this what’d we’d call a “hardware mash-up” in web 2.0 parlance?

I had the base registered with OnSIP in about 5 minutes. It’s registering with two separate domains on the same account. Thus I can get work and personal calls. One of the truly great things about OnSIP is that they support multiple phones using the same registration. When a call comes in they simply all ring. Very handy.

Portech GSM Gateway: Observations Based On The First 20 Calls

The first part of this week required that I be in Austin, TX working at a customer’s site. This is the sort of trip where I drive to and from as opposed to flying. It’s three hours drive each way, which means listening to XM radio and making phone calls.

A number of times during the period I had to call the UK to consult with associates. As much as possible I tried to do this via the newly installed Portech MV-370 GSM gateway. I’ve made around 20 calls to the UK through the gateway so far.

Remember from our prior installment that have it setup for two-stage dialing, passing incoming cellular calls out through Junction Network’s OnSIP hosted PBX.

Portech GSM Gateway: A First Effort At Setup

Step 1: Get Another SIM Card

Last Friday I went down to my local T-Mobile shop and had my personal cellular plan converted to a family plan. Then I had them issue me a second SIM card, adding a new line to the plan. I told them that I’d use my old phone, an old Motorola Razr v3. I even brought it with me to the store. We used it to confirm that the SIM worked as expected.
