Gigaset Preset Configurations Now Includes IdeaSIP

Not long ago I got word that Gigaset was working to add more ITSPs to the presets in the configuration tool in their SIP/DECT cordless phones. The Gigaset DECT base can update its list of ITSPs in much the same manner that it checks for firmware updates.

This afternoon IdeaSIP confirmed that they are now listed as one of the ITSPs for which there is a preset configuration. They have also posted a page on their web site walking you through the setup process.

Gigaset One: Bluetooth-Based Cell-to-PSTN Interface

A couple of weeks ago friend Tony up at Gigaset promised to send me a couple of the newer Gigaset DECT handsets that they’ve started to sell in the US. The box arrived and true to his promise there are a couple of handsets..but this is not about them. Left with a little space in the box Tony threw in a Gigaset One Bluetooth interface device. It’s proven to be a curious and interesting little device.

Let me be completely clear about this….it’s not often that manufacturers just send me stuff (disclosure statement). After almost 600 posts to this blog I’ve managed forge a few good relationships with manufacturers, but in most cases I simply buy whatever hardware I truly need, and that’s what I get to write about.

Gigaset’s New DX600A Small Business Phone

Earlier this month Gigaset launched the DX600A, a new model of desk phone targeting the small business and home office. In North America this went largely unnoticed as the DX600A is currently only available in Europe, and specifically in an ISDN capable model.

Since ISDN lines are extremely uncommon in North America the DX600A in its present form doesn’t apply to that market. However, I’m told that there’s a chance that a SIP capable version of the device could be introduced in the US if there are signs of demand. On that basis I think that the DX600A is worth a closer look.

Deal Alert: Gigaset S79H vs SL78H or S67H

Well isn’t this kind of curious? The newer Gigaset S79H handset is being offered on Amazon for $69.95. In contrast the older S67H handset is being offered for $63.08. Both are expansion handsets intended to be an addition to an existing Gigaset systems. They’ll work just fine with either the A580 or S675 base.

The difference in price is very slight given that the S79H actually has some of the features of the SL78H handset, which is offered for a whopping $149.95. The S79H has a 2.5mm standard wired headset connector like the S67H, but also a mini-usb connector for use with the Gigaset QuickSync software. That means that you can conveniently sync up to 500 contacts from Outlook. It also has a handy alarm function and rational volume buttons on the side of the handset.

Gigaset News: New Beta Firmware Release

Hereabouts we do love our Gigaset cordless phones. Actually, that’s overstating the case a bit. Recent firmware releases, notably the November & December issues, have proven to be troublesome for some users. It’s tempered our enthusiasm just a little. An earlier post about Gigaset firmware developed a most impressive comment trail.
