The snom m3: Range Limitations & DECT Extender vs Roaming

Two weeks ago my wife told me that the small snom m3 handsets are not working as well as they should. To be specific, when she’s in the front bedroom the call quality is not good. I was out of town at the time but eventually got around to looking into the matter.

It’s is a simple matter of signal propogation. That bedroom location is the furthest possible point from the base radio, which was in my office.

Jared Valentine’s “Application Aware Triggered QoS”

Jared Valentine has posted an interesting description of a system he developed for automatically manipulating QoS & bandwidth allocation to support the use of VOIP over his DSL service. He calls this “Application Aware Triggered QoS.”

snom m3 Revisited

Some reaction to the snom review is starting to trickle in. One reader, Lonnie Abelbeck, noted that he had an issue with daylight savings time on his snom m3. He sent the following message;

Michael,

I read your review of the SNOM m3 in SmallNetBuilder, excellent review. I recently purchased the same m3 setup you have, very pleased as well.

One issue that I think I solved is the daylight savings settings, the defaults did not look correct to me.

For help, I referenced Polycom’s docs using the same platform…
