Plantronics Voyager Pro UC: Model Designations

Several people have been in touch regarding my recent review of the Plantronics Voyager Pro UC Bluetooth headset. It seems that they would like to purchase the device but want to be certain that they are selecting the appropriate model. After all, why pay for the wideband capable model if you only application will be with a cell phone? Conversely, if you really want wideband capability you’d better get the Plantronics Voyager Pro UC V2.

To help make this very clear here are the two labels from the packages:

Plantronics Voyager Pro UC V1

Plantronics Voyager Pro UC V2

The other models are the Plantronics Voyager PRO and the Plantronics Voyager PRO+ both of which do not support wideband, but are significantly cheaper.

Update: Karl Fife tells me that Plantronics Voyager Pro UC V2 is back-ordered for a month pending a new shipment from the East.

The links above are Amazon affiliate links to the correct products. After doing effectively nothing commercial on this site I’ve recently decided to try adding some Amazon affiliate links where appropriate.

  1. How does the maximum volume of the Pro UC V2 compare to other bluetooth headsets in the market? I’m trying to find a wideband capable headset for someone that is a tiny bit hard of hearing.

I was reading that the voyager pro has a few complaints that the volume does not get load enough and was wondering if it is the same with the Pro UC V2

    1. I myself have a small amount of hearing loss on my right side so I appreciate what you’re asking. I don’t see the Voyager Pro UC as being deficient in terms of output volume. I can wear it on the left or right, but i tend to wear it on the left. I usually have at about 80% of volume.

It’s hard know if it’s capable of being louder than any other BT headset, but it hasn’t been a problem for me.

  2. Thanks for this additional bit of information.

The person I am researching this for currently has a Plantronics Voyager 520 which he likes because the ear bud goes into the ear canal instead of just sitting on the ear.

I was thinking that it should be possible to get similar ear buds for the Voyager Pro UC.
After a bit of searching I came across yurbuds.com which sells universal ear bud adapters for headphones.
Apparently they also work with Bluetooth headsets.
I’m thinking that this might provide some additional volume if the standard configuration is not load enough.

    1. Um, don’t bother with these. They suck. The plastic is too soft and thin to sustain their shape, making them nearly impossible to fit.

  3. I’m late to this party, I suppose, but I see the Plantronics KB says the Pro+ does have wideband audio, not just the UC+. Does that sound right? I don’t care about built-in sensors, but would like to have better voice quality for dictation and phone calls.

    1. The link you provided certainly seems like a clear statement of which models support wideband audio. I’ve used the Voyager Pro UC v1 and Voyager Pro UC v2. Bot supported wideband audio when paired with a laptop using the built-in BT radio on the laptop. It was the earlier model BT dongle, BUA100, that didn’t support wideband audio. If the soft client you’re using handle wideband then you’d definitely be better off with a similarly capable headset.

FWIW, I was recently thinking that it’s worth restating my support for the Voyager Pro line. Not only has mine proven itself time and again, but when I was at ITExpo last week it was the one most common headset that I saw people using. I must have seen a dozen or more people using the VP as opposed to only a few using other models.

      1. I have been looking into this and have recently seen some news on a voyager plus HD? Do you know anything about this?
