This Just In: Gigaset Giveaway at HDComms Next Week

mjgraves | September 11, 2009

siemens a580ip 160 This Just In: Gigaset Giveaway at HDComms Next WeekThe Second of Pulver’s HDComms events is next Tuesday, Sept 15th in NYC. I just found out that all attendees to the event will be given a free Gigaset DECT/CATiq HD capable cordless phone  and a coupon to download MailVision’s HD capable iPico Mobile SIP Client for iPhone and iPod Touch.

I’m kinda sorry I can’t make it this time.

SXSW Started This Weekend; AT&T Suffering The Consequences

mjgraves | March 16, 2009

iphone large 55x96 SXSW Started This Weekend; AT&T Suffering The ConsequencesNicholas Deleon over at CrunchGear has an interesting post from the perspective of someone attending this weekend’s start of the annual SXSW event in Austin. He calls it “Why Do Users Put Up With Terrible Cellphone Service?” and it basically details the fact that AT&T is struggling to service the throngs of iPhone toting hipsters that have flocked into Austin for the event.

mjgraves | January 6, 2009

Truphone issued a couple of press releases today. The first release announces full interoperability of IM with MSN Messenger, Yahoo! Messenger and GoogleTalk in its iPod Touch and iPhone applications.  They have also integrated Twitter into the TruFriends view of the Truphone application.

In the case of GoogleTalk users can also make and receive voice calls using the Truphone application. Similar voice capability is in the work for users of MSN Messenger and Yahoo! Messenger.

An Interesting Opinion On The iPhone

mjgraves | July 18, 2008

Kristian Kielhofner, of Astlinux and Star2Star fame, posted a most interesting and thoughtful opinion on the iPhone today. He’s had a couple for the past week for the express purpose of starting to develop apps for it.

I found it an interesting read. I remain a little contrarian with respect to the iPhone. I think that the reality does not match the hype. I remain committed to not doing business with AT&T, so no iPhone for me.

OTOH, the Nokia N810 is getting cheaper as a new model approaches. I find myself wondering which I’d like more, a N810 or one of the new small PCs like the Asus Eee, or perhaps Dell’s forthcoming small model?

Major Malady Afflicting iPhones?

mjgraves | July 13, 2008

Tom Cross over at TMC has a cute post about his dead iPhone.  This is curious as my boss went down to the local iStore to buy a number of iPhones for his family. He found that while several worked as hoped his personal handset was in fact DOA.

Smartphones & E-mail Addicts: My Personal Experience

mjgraves | July 2, 2008

Smartphones & E mail Addicts: My Personal ExperienceI’ve carried a Blackberry 8100 (aka Pearl) for the past 18 months. I like it. Prior to this I carried a Motorola Razr V3, whose sole feature was its form factor. It was a great size & shape. Decent phone too, but not a “smart phone.”

For years I’ve watched as friends and associates jumped on the smart phone craze. Some had Treo’s, some Windows Mobile devices..heck, my wife’s employer issued her a Blackberry 7290 a year before I  broke down and bought my Pearl. I’m the early adopter in the family so that was a strange turn of the tables.
